What does sustainable packaging mean to us? We define it as packaging that achieves its intended role while minimizing resource requirements, using only responsibly sourced materials, and maximizing opportunities for recovery, recycling, or reuse.

Oliver’s green options include:

  • Responsibly sourced recycled substrates 
  • Vegetable oil-based inks and water-based coatings
  • Prop 65 compliant UV inks and coatings
  • Cellulose acetate window material for folding cartons that's certified as 100-percent compostable and petroleum-free
  • Direct transfer metalized paperboard that eliminates the plastic film, so it's easily recycled with other printed papers
  • Digital proofing and 3D visualizations to reduce paper-use and save time

Innovative board options

Oliver is proud to offer innovative board options that support your eco-friendly initiatives without sacrificing quality. 

These board options include Unilustre® (from Unifoil)—a 100% recyclable metallized paperboard—and post-consumer recycled paperboard. Post-consumer recycled boards are customizable and can be used for folding cartons in addition to marketing collateral.

With folding carton designers in each of our facilities, we provide a breadth and depth of experience in right-size packaging, enhancing the potential for reuse or recycling, and developing a structural design to stand out from the competition. We invest in the latest print and folding carton technologies to increase throughput and reduce our carbon footprint. 

Sustainable Sourcing: Chain-of-Custody Certifications

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), Sustainable Forest Initiative (SFI), and Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) programs provide third-party certifications that our wood and pulp suppliers support and practice responsible forest management principles.

FSC is an international, not-for-profit organization that has developed principles and criteria to certify forests and forest products and ensures forests are managed in a responsible manner that makes them a truly renewable resource.

SFI

SFI is a North American forestry standards organization committed to continuously improving responsible forest management. Program participants must meet or exceed applicable water quality laws and regulations, with measures to manage and protect water wetlands and riparian zones on certified lands.
